It's hard to believe how much it snowed on the weekend. I tried to walk to the LRT station on Sunday, but I could hardly find the sidewalk. The longer I live in Edmonton, the more I think about moving to a more tropical location. Hmmm...what kind of a job could I do in Hawaii?
Okay, it's time to be realistic. I'm *stuck* in Edmonton for now, so I *might as well* *make the best of it*. I will do my best to enjoy the snow. Who wants to go skating?
*stuck= trapped/ unable to move/ unable to go to another location/ unable to remove something
Examples: My car was stuck in the snow
Many people were stuck at the Heathrow airport because of the snow storm.
My dog's head was stuck in my laundry basket yesterday
I got my finger stuck in a Coca-Cola bottle this morning.
(*also common: get stuck OR get _________ stuck)
*might as well= maybe the best choice/ the best option/ the best thing to do in a situation
Examples: My class is finished and I have nothing to do here. I might as well go home.
I have some tomatoes, cucumbers, and spinach in my fridge. I might as well make a salad.
A: I'm bored. Do you have any good movies in your DVD collection?
B: I have Night at the Museum.
A: I've seen it. Do you have anything else?
B: No, I lent all of my other movies to my sister.
A: What?? Oh...okay...then...we might as well just watch Night at the Museum then.
*make the best of it= be positive/ try to make the situation happy/ try to enjoy a situation by changing your attitude
Examples: It snowed yesterday, and I couldn't go to work. But I decided to make the best of it, so I used that time to clean my apartment. Now my room looks great!
A: The TV's not working. We can't watch it!!
B: Let's make the best of it. We can use this time to study.
A: No thanks. I'm going to sleep.
B: What?! Come on! Don't waste time.
A: Okay, fine. Let's study.
