The First Snowfall

It's the first snowfall today in my town and I am at a loss because my cell phone is on the fritz. Why is that a problem? Because that's what I use to take pictures and videos with. I don't have what you might call a conventional camera. Oh well. I guess I'll just have to go get it fixed. Stupid Smart phone.

So today was really cold. Seriously, not so different from Alberta? It's that cold that just kind of sneaks up and bites you. The cold that makes you cry out while looking up into the sky, screaming "Whyyyyyyy?" But maybe that's just because I tend be overly dramatic about cold weather. Let's just say I'm not really a winter person. Of course, I will try to make the best of it, and will probably go to the big Ice/Snow festival in Sapporo in February.

Wow! My wife just fixed my phone in the flash of an eye. I shouldn't say that; I'm supposed to be the one who does that sort of stuff- fixing electronics and such. Hazukashi (embarrassed)!!

Now it's too dark and the first snowfall picture would just be lame. I'll wait till tomorrow or some time after.

Some high school students were preparing for a speech contest, so I had to coach them and give them advice and stuff today. 2 things that amazed me: (1.) They wrote their own speeches and the English is really quite good (2.) When they actually present their speech, their voices sound kind of flat.
Naturally, I told them "This is about your life, your emotions, your passion. Please show your passion when you speak." I hope they can. It may just be a difference between the Japanese style of giving speeches and the English-speaking/Canadian style of giving speeches. Anyway, the speech contest is tomorrow. It'll be interesting on Friday to hear from them how it went.

Tomorrow I get to go to the office for the day instead of teaching at junior high or high school. Yeah!  Raise the roof! Rejoice!! Do you sense sarcasm? It's okay, I don't really mind.

I got to talk to my mom on Skype yesterday. That was nice, since I hadn't heard from her for a while. My aunt and cousins and grandparents, and some others were up for my Aunty Kay's 90th birthday. That IS impressive. I want to live to 90 and beyond. Hmmm...maybe there's something to the diabetic diet (if you couldn't guess, my Aunty Kay is diabetic). Eating smaller meals about every 2 hours. Maybe that's the way to go. Anyway, I miss my Aunty Kay and I really should have gone to see her before I left. She's precious.

Speaking of Skype, I wish my sister would download it so I could talk to her, actually hear her voice, and hear my nephews' voices, including the nephew I haven't met yet because I was already in Japan. Too bad. His name is Lincoln. That's a good name; it reminds me of the character from Prison Break. Then there's Lincoln Brewster. He's a very talented guitar player. And then there's Abraham Lincoln. He was respectable. So Lincolns have a good history.

                                         Anyway...
Let's make the best of winter!!
